Added: 06/23/2007

Some people go out of their way to look for a date, when they are actually in the middle of a whole bunch of potential dates. Your school classmates are potential dates and dating someone from your school can have many benefits. There are some guidelines to follow, to be sure that if the dating stops, you can continue on in school with your head held high. Dating classmates requires tack and looking ahead to the future.

It is very common for a person in school to date school classmates. It is the perfect environment to meet others; however you should take care to keep a few things in mind. Reputation is very important to most teenagers in High School. It is for this reason, that if you are a female you will most likely not want to date every boy in your class. Being in a school environment can give you a great opportunity to get to know someone before you agree to begin dating them. This way, you can only date the boys that you believe have quality values and will make a great boyfriend.
For females, it is often best if you observe school classmates for potential dating. Take note of how the boy acts when he is around his friends, around your friends and when alone with you. If you notice drastic differences in his behavior, this may be something you will want to think about. If the guy you have your eye only treats you nice and pays attention to you when the two of you are alone, you would be wise to re-think saying yes to dating him. However, if he behaves caring in all types of situations, it looks like a green light.
Being in school all day with your school classmates and give you a great opportunity to get to know someone before you date them. You can see how they act in class, who their friends are and if they participate in sports or other school activities. One great way to spend time with someone that you like and get their attention is to join a group that they belong to. Conversation is the beginning step to dating someone
When dating school classmates, think carefully before becoming too physically intimate before you are truly ready. There is a good reason that most people will say that teenagers should wait until they are older before becoming too serious with others. This is because being intimate with another is a very personal event and it brings many elements along with it; elements that are better handled by adults.
In regard to getting the attention of a classmate that you have your eye on, one of the best ways is to casually flirt. A casual flirt something that you can say to the other person that can be taken as a friendly comment if they are not responsive, or if they are interested it can be their signal that you are indeed interested in them. A casually flirt should be said in a friendly and normal tone of the voice. It is best to say something that is flattering to the other person, without gushing about how amazing they are. Everyone loves to receive a compliment and this is the way to gain attention. If you compliment a classmate regarding something, they will most certainly not think of you in a bad way. Your compliments will be remembered and this will put you in a good light. You may not want to loving stare at a classmate and gush about how beautiful their eyes are. Alternatively, you can give a compliment regarding a report that they did in class, a great play that they made at a sports game or you can tell them that you think they have a great sense of humor if they make a joke. If you classmate does not know your name, after you make the compliment, it is time to extend you hand and introduce yourself. When someone is told something nice about themselves, they are most often very open to making introductions and having a nice conversation.
Always remember that breakups are common in school. If you begin to date school classmates, know ahead of time that a breakup may occur. If it does then happen, you will be better prepared. While painful, time does heal all. With a whole school of potential dates, never allow one person to ruin your High School years.
