A great craft for kids is to make a fish out of a CD ROM. We all get them in the mail all the time! Instead of throwing them away, use them for a craft! Take two CDs and several pieces of construction paper. Cut out two top fins, lips, tail, and a bottom fin. Set aside a top fin, and glue the rest of the pieces on the top of one of the CDs. Glue a piece of string or yarn from the hole in the center and out past the top fin. Glue the other top fin over the string to cover it. Glue the other CD on top, shiny side out. You have created a bright, shiny fish. Glue an eye on the fish for a nice effect.

One of the best pieces of trash to make crafts for kids out of is an empty toilet paper roll. Save these! You never know when you will need one! You can make great party favors out of toilet paper rolls. Fill with candy and small toys, and wrap in shining wrapping paper. Twist the ends shut and tie with curly ribbon. You have created a great party favor that looks like a giant piece of candy. Kids will love it! You can also create puppets using toilet paper rolls. Decorate them with paper, cloth, and any other scrap materials to look like animals or people. Glue a craft stick to the bottom of the puppet, and put on a show! Your kids are only limited by their imaginations! If it is close to Easter, decorate toilet paper holders in spring colors and cut them down. They make great Easter egg holders!

Do you have a lot of old newspapers lying around! Paper mache is one of the most exciting crafts for kids! Mix a small amount of flour with warm water. It should still be liquid in consistency. Then you need a shape for your paper mache. A balloon or light bulb works well, or an old bowl. Make sure what ever you use you are not worried about loosing, because the process will probably ruing the mold. Tear your newspaper into one-inch strips and dip it into the flour paste. Once it is wet, it will stick to your mold. Do several layers, and then allow the product to dry for at least twenty-four hours. At this point, break your mold. If you used a light bulb, you will have created a maraca! Paint your project and you are done! This is a fun, however messy, project. Have plenty of extra newspapers spread over your workspace.

Before you throw away your next piece of trash, look at it carefully. Can you think of some crafts for kids that you can do with that garbage? If so, hang on to it! Your creativity will soar!
