Christian Preachers, Christian Teachers

Since the earliest beginnings of Christianity Christian preachers have been of the utmost importance. Our very first example of Christian preaching comes from the Book of Acts found in the New Testament of the Bible. Peter, one of the leaders of the church in Jerusalem, is overcome by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and preaches to the assembled multitudes, able to be understood by everyone despite the barrier of language.
Christian preachers are some of the most important people in the Christian world today. Christian preachers are leaders and serve as guides for the Christian community. In many Christian denominations Christian preachers are not referred to as preachers but pastors. This word has etymological roots to the idea of pastoralism, and shows the idea of the preacher not just as a preacher but as a guide, a shepherd of the Christian community.

Christian preachers can be found in abundance throughout the Christian world. They come in all shapes and sizes and they all have their own distinct personalities and preaching styles. Some of the most well-known Christian preachers are the Television evangelists, better known as televangelists. Often associated with the more fundamentalist charismatic leading end of Christianity, these are some of the most famous Christian preachers in the world. It is not always a good thing.

Unfortunately many TV Christian preachers have become known not for spreading the Gospel of Christ but for working to line their own pockets. While some televangelists such as Billy Graham are considering some of the most respected Christian preachers in the world, such cannot be said for many of the other TV Christian preachers. Notable preachers such as the Bakkers or Benny Hinn have created a world of controversy in their worldwide preaching.

For most Christians, however, their primary interaction with Christian preachers comes not through television but through their own local pastors. Whether they be Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, Pentecostals or whatever denomination, Christian preachers are at the forefront of their spiritual life.

Christian preachers serve not just preachers but also as teachers. One of their many missions is to teach about the Gospel of Christ as well as to teach people about the ministry of Jesus, the ministries of the disciples and the history of the Christian faith. They teach their communities about Christian theology, its development as well as Christianity's role in the world today.

We are living in unusual times. Many Christian preachers and Christian teachers today believe that these are the End Times spoken of in the Bible, most famously in the Revelation of St. John the Divine. For many today they see this as the most important book of the Bible as it speaks directly to our own time and the pending end of the world in Armageddon that shall lead to the Rapture and the return of Christ.

With so much violence going on in the world today: terrorism, problems in the Middle East, the looming of war over the Holy Land, many Christian preachers see that this day and age can be nothing other than the End Times spoken of in the Bible. However it has been the case that many Christian preachers and Christian teachers have thought much the same thing throughout the history of Christianity. As Jesus spoke in the Gospels, no man knows when the Second Coming shall be. Jesus shall return like a thief in the night.

In these trying times, Christian teachers and Christian preachers have never been more important. They are a vital part of our spiritual lives, and the spiritual has never seemed quite as important as they do in these times when we are threatened by so much in the world.
