Halloween is a holiday that is celebrated in October; October 31st to be precise. In fact, you could claim that Halloween kicks off the holiday season. This is because many holidays follow very soon after Halloween such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Years. Halloween, for most people means going trick or treating with their children or going to a great, spooky, and fun Halloween party for the entire evening. Halloween involves buying much candy and caramel apples to pass out to all of the children and adults that come to the door asking for a treat. In order to go trick or treating for candy and other goodies adults and children alike must be wearing a Halloween costume. Halloween costumes can be inexpensive or expensive depending on how much you wish to spend on Halloween costumes. Children’s Halloween costumes can be handmade or purchased from a variety of Halloween specialty shops all over the world. The favorite children’s Halloween costumes vary year after year; one of the years that I went trick or treating with my mother and my friends Strawberry Shortcake and all of the Star Wars characters were popular. When I went to Halloween parties over the years, I went a witch a couple of times and a devil a couple of times. Some children's Halloween costumes are oldies but goodies such a witch, pirate, pumpkin, clown, and goblin.

Children can be and are very creative with their Halloween costumes. One child is my neighborhood dressed up as a box of crayons and another child dressed up as a beautiful butterfly. Children's Halloween costumes are cute however, they also need to be safe for the child that wears the Halloween costume. It is recommended that children wear Halloween costumes that are light and bright in color such as yellow, pink, white, and orange. Some examples of light and bright colored Halloween costumes for children are as follows: a ghost, Big Bird, a pumpkin, a ballerina in a white or a pink tutu, or a butterfly. The reason that children's Halloween costumes need to light and bright is so that cars can see them crossing the street at night while they are trick or treating with a responsible adult such as their parents. Another Halloween tip is that children's Halloween costumes should be designed and made with face paint and makeup instead of a mask. This is because children can see well if their faces are made up with makeup instead of a mask. In addition, when children go out trick or treating with a responsible adult they should carry with a flashlight so they can see where they are going in the dark. Moreover, there should be a definite time for children to be home from their night of Halloween fun especially if it is a school night.

If you children are looking for period costumes there are a few popular children’s Halloween costumes that will satisfy both them and you. Cleopatra is always a popular period costume for children and teenagers. Also, a poet such as Shakespeare is also very popular with children and teenagers.
