Centaurs the Asteroid Link to a Horoscope

Added: 10/16/2006

The name Centaurs is given to large asteroids that travel from the deep regions of our solar system to within the orbit of Jupiter. Centaurs were first identified in 1977 when astronomers believed that the very large asteroid Chiron was in fact a small planet, although today that is no longer the case. Even so centaurs do impact on the horoscopes produced since 1977 and as their presence in the celestial sky has to be considered.

The discovery of the centaurs in 1977, a collection of large icy asteroids caught in an elliptical orbit between Saturn and Uranus changed the interpretation of the celestial language forever. The first of these large asteroids to be identified was given the name Chiron, associated with the Centaur in Greek mythology. The oddity about Chiron is that it appears like a comet with the possession of a tail. However comets are generally smaller and in addition the rotation has been positively identified as that common to asteroids. Nevertheless astronomers continue to debate the category in which to positively place Chiron as it is a bit of a hybrid.

Calculations relating to the centaurs and specifically Chiron suggest that it orbits the Sun between 49 and 51 years and crosses the orbits of both Saturn and Uranus while doing so.

Astrological studies attempting to identify the significance of the centaurs in astrology have focused on Chiron, which appears to associate with wounding, healing and possibly investigations into topics relevant to the world as a whole. There is an indication of greatness concerned with Chiron that might lend itself to the material and spiritual worlds. Therefore the significance of the asteroids and to date sixteen have been identified, will undoubtedly play a sometimes leading role in any interpretation provided by horoscopes today. In 1992 another asteroid roughly about the same size as Chiron was located travelling within a similar elliptical orbit and received the name Pholus. It seems reasonable to suggest that more sightings of other asteroids will eventually be identified within this group and as Greek mythology was good enough to record more than three hundred named Centaurs providing a title to each of the new discoveries should not present a problem.

The significance of the centaur names to the astrologer relates to the tales associated with Greek mythology, for example Pholus is concerned with self-sacrifice in order to help the majority while another given the name Asbolus was recorded as possessing great intuitive qualities. However not all centaurs were good centaurs and some, such as Nessus, had a history for deceit.

It is now possible to obtain details of the centaur ephemeris on software taking astrological detail in the interpretation of a horoscope to an all new level. This exciting new capability can only develop as more centaurs are identified and their presence associated with relevant centaurs from the Greek myths.

Interesting an asteroid encompassed within the centaur group has been provided the title Chariklo. Chariklo was not an actual centaur in Greek mythology, but rather the sea nymph wife of the Chiron. However, for astrologers this indicated that Chariklo provides the power to unlock some of the questions relating to our spiritual dimension. The point here is that the presence of Chariklo in an interpretation signifies the reasons why you might experience conflict with other individuals at certain times or dislike someone new that you encounter. Learning the reasons for conflict in a life from the spiritual dimension should help guide individuals towards an improved understanding of their own instinctive reasoning.
