Even before Santa closes out the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade you have another iconic Christmas in NY state celebration gearing up to get started. In August of every year the world famous Rockettes, who perform and the Radio City Music Hall, will hold their promotional campaign for their world famous Christmas show by performing on the sidewalk in front of Radio City Music Hall while fake snow falls gently down on them. The Rockettes Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall has been going on since 1933 and has become a tradition not just for people in New York City but for visitors that come from all over the world just to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the world famous Rockettes. To go along with the pageant in New York City is the annual lighting of the huge Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. Every year a huge, and real, Christmas tree is set up in Rockefeller Center and lit up with thousands of lights during a celebration broadcast all over the world. They have been putting the huge tree up in Rockefeller Center since 1931 and this has also become a much anticipated Christmas tradition in New York City that New York City shares with the world.
Christmas in NY State is about more than just New York City. As you move into the middle of the state you get near the Finger Lakes region and some of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see and when Christmas snow hits that scenery, and the locals decorate for Christmas, you get a small town American Christmas experience that you cannot get anywhere else. As you move west towards Upstate New York you come to one of the areas in the world that is famous for snow during its Christmas in NY State. Buffalo and the surrounding Niagara region celebrate their snow reputation at Christmas time and hold many festivals and celebrations throughout the area to help people enjoy the Christmas snow and feel as warm as you can in the freezing cold of Christmas in NY State. It is a time of year that everyone in NY State looks forward to all year long.
