Cancer Kid - Need to Fight by Tooth and Nail

Added: 10/20/2007

There has always been a great interest among the teenagers over smoking. While to the male members it amounts to smartness and more than that manliness, to the female ones it is synonymous as modernism. And here is the commencement of a dangerous tradition. It is true that smoking is an emotional thing but reckless treatments of this for the sake of alpha male perception leads to the rise of cancer kids. It will be utterly wrong to affirm that all teenage smokers are cancer kids. But a great chance persists among them!

Thus many young people who intend to be tough guys in the near future resort to smoking and often are also encouraged to start the habit themselves. But it is the same habit that also transforms them into cancer kids! According to several reports in the recent years, there have been numerous instances where the syndrome of cancer kid has swept a considerable section of the young generation, belonging to any nation, city or town! Well, in this respect it will be wrong to ascertain that the respective governments have intentionally not adopted tough measures. On the contrary, there have been serious measures and even the traders if found convicted with illegal trading activities of tobacco have been rendered harsh sentences. But, without any effect! The specter of illegal smoking is still looming large over the young generation. Of course not in the earlier modes, but in more dangerous modes. So what to do? To eradicate this growing menace from the human civilization, there is a need on our part to maintain the eternal vigilance! Or else how shall we be able to save our children from turning into cancer kids? We shall have to follow the aged old gospel of, Charity begins at home. But before that we must learn it by heart that spoiling the combustible younger generation of a country, we spoil the entire country. So the teen age remains the only period when the habit of smoking needs to be curbed, in the overall interests. So, for the beginning there is the need of several tangible steps to be taken for implementing the quit smoking campaign. To begin with what programs can be taken or are needed at the initial level to popularize this crusade should be chalked out. At everywhere the non-smoker teenagers should be encouraged to form groups and initiate anti smoking campaigns in schools and colleges. May be the tobacco peddlers will offer stiff resistance, but strong determination crushes everything. Gather as many persons you can. In this respect, try to gather the parents and relatives of the erstwhile victims. They are the best to let others know the reality. Even short documentaries need to be shown as to what smoking can do for damaging their health. You should also make suitable arrangements for teenagers to go on educational tours. It shall be better, if it becomes possible for them to visit one or two important cancer hospitals or even cancer wards of other hospitals. It has been perceived often, that the suffering of the cancer patients (the former tobacco addicts) will have a salutary effect on them. Encourage the teens so that they should take lead in the exposure of the double-faceted approach of the government to tobacco addiction. Though the topmost brass of the government intends to eradicate this growing menace, often the orders are implemented depending on the whims of the concerned governmental officials. Again, at several times they are never implemented. So it is the high time for the teens to take up the cudgel. They can raise the issue that on the one hand tobacco manufacturers are made to declare that cigarette smoking is injurious to the health. While on the other hand, there is no curb on the issuance of number of licenses to the tobacco product manufacturers.
In this respect, the non-governmental organizations should be motivated to carry forward the struggle. In addition, it is highly important to introduce the subject "Nicotine" as a full-length chapter in the school syllabus. Its ill-effects should be periodically discussed in the college level debating competitions. However, even after this there are chances that the teenager of your residence may be the next cancer kid. So from now onwards make the punishments to the teen smokers as trend-setting. If you wish to implement an important law concerning stop smoking among the teens, it should be implemented with sincerity and strictness.
