Where there is freedom, democracy and a fair chance to take on the establishment, not only feminism but every other issue also finds a voice. Why is feminism only a quiet riot in the strife torn Middle east or totally silenced in the darkness of the African jungles? Why is the issue not snowballing in those parliaments (i.e if they have one at all!)? The main reason is that in these countries, the culture, family values and general society do not support the feminist civil right. A subdued woman is more desirable who can continue the progeny. In such nations one only finds a lone feminist civil right fighting, an aggressive feminist (suing men left, right and center) and the social feminist doing lip service. Why has there been need for feminist civil right at all in the first place? Inequality, sufferings, domestic violence, unequal laws and no proper rights in male dominated societies etc have all contributed to women raising their voices. In the last two hundred years, the feminist and the civil rights authorities have literally crossed swords many a time on different platforms. Triumphant feminists narrate iconic examples of victory over suppression. Ironically, in countries that have had highest number of violence against women, no reservations and no equality in law and basic services, have had woman as the Head of State. Prime examples include (India, Sri Lanka, Bangla Desh, Pakistan etc). The developed nations mean to allow maximum liberty to the women in their countries but no woman really rises more than becoming a film star or a high paid television anchor. In many developed countries women may have the cursory freedom, liberty to voice her opinion, sue a violent spouse, divorce her husband for not making more money, make high noises if she loses her official position to a lesser male, but she still remains only the weaker gender. She can build a fashion empire or a perfume empire but she does not politically participate in any issue that will shape the country’s future.


Feminism is unfortunately a much-abused word and so is a feminist civil right issue. Some psuedo feminists are conning their own selves and ilk into believing that they can revolutionize civil rights in their favor. In reality men are different from women and there can be no comparison between the two. Feminists are dangerous and ruining the very equation between men and women in general. Feminism is also unfortunately merely rooted to sex, domestic violence, navel gazing (yes, yes, yes), extra marital flings and careers. Probably if women realize that gender inequality and accepting biological differences with men will always remain, core issues can still be solved. To avail of civil rights, there is no need to be a feminist. Make everyday a Woman’s Day. Is there anyone who celebrates International Man’s Day? Feminists take note. Please justify your stand towards the civil rights. No matter what, a woman’s power still lies in her ability to seduce, attract and have the world at her feet. Does she have to be a feminist and fight for her rights? It does make civic sense in a small way!
