Added: 12/21/2007

Wedding is union of two souls and wedding in Brazil means that two souls are deeply in love and are waiting to get united. A Brazilian wedding is a very traditional one and both the bride and the groom follow it very religiously. The guest too are required t follow them on their part. Like a wedding from any part of the world, Brazilian wedding too is colorful, splendid and spectacular.

The nation of Brazil has a mixed population of the Negros, the whites and the original Brazilian native. Brazil marriage traditions are a very expensive and expressive affair. This ceremony is all fun and frolic. Brazil marriage ceremony is full of music, song and dance, strong beliefs, rich legends and great sumptuous food. Different and many traditions are followed in the Brazilian culture. To cite an example the Brazilians believe that a certain phase of moon is best for sowing of seeds or planting them.
A Brazil marriage ceremony is very different. The bottom line of a Brazil marriage is like those in many Christian countries. However common certain traditions may be, some of the traditions are very different because this is a country of Latin America. Brazil marriage traditions are very old. Tradition has it that the bride should arrive at least ten minutes later than the groom. The groom will not see the bride in her wedding gown until the wedding ceremony.
Wedding dresses are a very important feature in any wedding. The bride and the groom spend time, energy and money to choose their wedding clothes in any part of the world. Unlike this, a very unique feature of a Brazilian wedding is that here the wedding dress for the bride is seldom purchased. The bride hires herself a wedding dress for this one time occasion. As it is difficult to find tuxedos and dresses matching for the groomsmen and bridesmaid, they are usually dressed in their formals.
Dance and merriment are a part of Brazil marriage ceremony. One can see many varieties of samba dance or ‘pagoda’ as it is often called, for the special occasion called marriage. After the Brazil wedding ritual, it is the party time. This wedding party is referred to as ‘padrinhos’. One can see three couples of bridesmaid and the groomsmen lined up on both the sides. This is an interesting tradition and all will love watching this. Latin song and dance is the common features in such ‘padrinhos’ as the Brazilian wedding is also influenced by the Latin American traditions.
Prior to wedding, engagements are must and like any other culture the couple needs to wear engagement rings. When one is engaged in Brazil, engagement rings are worn in the third finger of the right hand. When they get married the engagement ring is transferred to the left hand. Marriage licenses are prepared and both the bride and the groom sign this special marriage license during the marriage ceremony. Groomsmen carry a small Brazilian flag instead of a flower.
Once the wedding ceremony and the party is over the couple can leave for their honeymoon. This is the most romantic moment as the groom picks his bride and then takes her to their new home or alternatively to a hotel room. During the whole ritual, the groom holds the bride on his arm and as he enters their house he puts his right foot forward first.
Brazil marriage traditions are very colorful and interesting too. People there are very warm and quite friendly. Therefore one should physically go there and attend a typical Brazil wedding ceremony to get the feel of it.
