Blind Man?s Bluff And Other Games For A Great Party

Added: 09/29/2005

Throwing a birthday party for your child or children can be exciting and fun. It can also be stressful if you have not gotten yourself prepared. The most important thing to do when throwing a party is to make sure there is plenty of activities for the children. Games like blind man's bluff, pin the tail on the donkey, and farmer wants a wife will keep the children entertained and in good spirits for your party.

Throwing a birthday party for your young child can be a real thrill. It can, however, also be very challenging. Keeping children entertained is not always easy. Planning out the entertainment at your child's party can help to ensure that the action keeps coming and that the children keep enjoying themselves.

There are several children's games that are recommended for parties. These games keep the children active, involved, and most importantly having fun.

Onegame that especially younger children seem to love is blind man's bluff. In order to play blind man's bluff, you will need a fairly large open area for the children. A large room with no furniture might work, but a yard or park area would work even better. First off, one of the players is designated as "it" to start the game. That child either closes his or her eyes or is blindfolded. "It" then attempts to tag the other players as they stay in the area, try to avoid being tagged, and make noise and tease "it." Blind man's bluff is really just a version of tag. Be sure, though, that blind man's bluff is always played somewhere that the children will not be likely to be injured by tripping over something or running into something. Keep the area clear and the game can be a lot of fun and take a lot of energy out the little ones.

Another game you can have children play is the classic game, pin the tail on the donkey. To play pin the tail on the donkey, tack a picture of a donkey to the wall at a height easily reached by the children at the party. Each child can then take a turn, one at a time, being blindfolded and handed a paper tail with a tack pushed through it (or two sided tape on it if you want to avoid sharp objects). The blindfolded child is spun until dizzy and then is sent in the general direction of the donkey. The child who gets the tail placed closest to the donkey's rear end wins.

Another game that can be played by children at a party is the farmer wants a wife. This is a little different than blind man's bluff and pin the tail on the donkey in that it is a game that involves songs and no real competition. One child starts out as the farmer in the center of a circle formed by the other children. They all sing a song including the words "the farmer wants a wife". As they get through the chorus, the farmer in the middle of the circle selects a wife who joins him in the center. Then, the children continue singing with each "character" wanting another. The wife wants a child, the child wants a nurse, and the nurse wants a dog. Once the nurse chooses the dog, the children sing that the dog wants a pat. As that gets sung, all the remaining children in the circle "pat" the dog on the back. The dog then becomes the farmer in the next round.

Children's games, such as those mentioned here, are a valuable part of a successful party. Each of the games is actually very traditional as well, and thus is a part of American culture. Children will enjoy the games, but parents and grandparents will enjoy them as well; that is what will make the party most enjoyable. The games are about good times for the children and the adults as well.
