Beach nudism in Crete and other places in Greece

Officially speaking, nudism is not allowed in Crete and Greece. Although every secluded beach, especially, when visiting the southern coast, are filled with those enjoying nudism. Sometimes a "no nudism" sign is placed on these beaches but they are not very productive at keeping those who enjoy the "free life", these are those who enjoy swimming and sunbathing new with out the restrictions of clothing. Some of these beaches lie below.
Paleochora is well known for beach nudism. The beach itself is part of a long sandy area. If you go east you will also find the beach of Anidri. The town is on an isthmus which is about a mile long that’s stretches south leading into the Mediterranean Sea. An isthmus is a narrow strip of land that is bordered on two sides by water and connects two larger land masses. The horizon towards the back of the beach, it is filled with mountains of beautiful Crete. The sand is very powdery; making it the perfect beach for brilliant sandcastles to be built on about the last 300 yards at the end of the beach is where the nude sunbathing and nude swimming takes place.

About an hour’s walk east of the Agia Roumeli, lies another great beach nudism area called Agios Pavlos. This is a long and almost deserted beach. The place where nudists are most seen is over a headland to the west of the main beach of Agios Pavlos. There are 2 different bays to go down to, however the sand goes all the way up the cliffs which means you will sink in while climbing down. So you’re feet will get burned if you are just wearing sandals or even going barefoot. There is also a daily boat leading from Aghia Galini to Preveli which stops by Agios Pavlos on its way through. This very attractive sandy nudist beach is mostly deserted, but is a great place to go all out, while having fun and being nude.

Two other beach nudism places is the Sweetwater Beach also called Glykahera. This beach is located about halfway between Loutro and Hora Sfakion. Also, try Filaki, which is the beach of the naturalist Hotel Vritomartis.

Some other places to practice beach nudism are Frangokastello and Plakias. Frangokastello is located about 1 kilometer east of the main beach presenting a very nice beach where beach naturalism is accepted, more towards the eastern end of the beach. An old fort of Frangokastelli lies on the south coast of Crete, the coast which is not far from the towns of Chora Sfakion and Plakias. This part of Crete, the coast is mostly an abrupt boundary for the mountains. Though for the most part, it is just sand and sea. Plakias is a long beach, which is still presents a place where naturalists roam. Another place to find beach nudism taking place is Komos Beach. Komos Beach is one of the best beaches for beach naturalism. Komos is a great place for scenery pleasure and it is also a nesting ground for sea turtles, although they are very beautiful, they should not be disturbed.

Lentas is also a great place to roam nude. Lentas has a tavern at its southern end, which is a short walk from an archaeological site, and you can also find a visiting cantina. The beach naturalist part of this beach measures about half a kilometer long.

The Red Beach is a great place for nudists. It is the only Greek location, that’s even been featured on the Sky Travel T.V. Channel as “The World’s best Nude Beach.”.
Thought getting to this beach is quite difficult and involves a lot of climbing, mostly over a very steep descent.

Beach nudism and beach naturism can be found all over Greece, however it is not legal.
