Appendicitis Is Treated By Surgical Intervention Only!

Added: 11/29/2007

What is appendicitis and how does it influence the human psyche? This question happens to be most common in any medical institution throughout the world, but it is to be noted at the same time that this also comes out from the common men! Truly speaking, appendicitis is considered to be a surgical illness and due to its severe character, the treatment for appendicitis does involve surgical intervention, at several times!

There have been several cases, as found in numerous medical colleges or institutions where judging by the speed of development and the gravity of the illness, appendicitis can be either acute or chronic. Why? Since acute appendicitis evolves very fast, it leads to a steady growth to severe complications, though chronic appendicitis is less serious and slower to develop. It is true that there are other options, but the safest treatment for appendicitis is considered to be surgery. Now do you know that the most frequent and significant symptom of appendix inflammation in children especially male ones are vague abdominal pains? At several times this symptom matures to appendicitis, especially in the male subjects with an increased incidence in older children and teenagers! However, it should also be kept in mind that the risk of vague abdominal pain suggesting appendicitis also persists, and through surgical intervention only a normal healthy appendix gets revealed. Though this is a very unfortunate incident, but this does happen at this particular age due to an imprecise diagnosis. The other possible mistake and complication in children below six is the appendix perforation due to a late intervention. But, even if there are unpardonable mistakes can we deny the dangerous implications that can happen if not treated? We are never in a position to take the risk and let the patient suffer! Now, the question is why does appendicitis occur? It is to be noted, that the saga of appendicitis occur only due to the bacterial infection and obstruction of the vermiform appendix, a tube-shaped extension of the large intestine (the colon). The reports of medical diagnosis prove that the appendix remains blocked by calculus or feces, resulting into swelling. Well there are also some cases, where the growth of the lymph nodes becomes accountable for the inappropriate activity of the appendix. Again, due to bacterial infection, quite common in appendicitis, the lymph nodes begin to swell and press against the walls of the appendix, resulting into a blockade. It is also found that the local blood circulation also gets perturbed, causing the death of the appendix. At this juncture the swelling of the appendix and bacterial infections can and do lead to serious complications, for instance gangrene, sepsis and perforation of the appendix. If this ever happens, then the best option available in the treatment for appendicitis when confronted with a seriously damaged appendix is to surgically remove it from the body. Is it going to have any such future implication? It is proved time and again, that there is no such possibility since the appendix doesn't have a vital role inside the organism and its absence doesn't affect the normal activity of the body.

But since this disease mostly affects the kids and teens a procedure called appendectomy is applied, as a part of the surgical treatment for appendicitis. In uncomplicated forms of appendicitis, appendectomy is a simple surgical intervention. But in spite of the medical advance and the abundance of medications available in this day and age, the suggested treatment for appendicitis at best remains appendectomy. If the presence of the illness is discovered in time, appendectomy is the safest option available today in the treatment for appendicitis giving relief to the kids and teens at the earliest.
