A NYC Christmas is one that you will never ever forget, no matter how old you get! The Big Apple is transformed into a winter wonderland with thousands of magical holiday lights, Christmas trees, hot chocolate, ice skating, department store Christmas window displays, and holiday-themed theatre shows. If you do not live in New York City, you should definitely plan a trip to Manhattan for the holiday season to get the experience of a lifetime.
New York City has so many different things to do all year long that it is hard to imagine anything less of a NYC Christmas. There is seemingly no end in sight to the things that you can experience in New York City during the holiday season. There are holiday Broadway shows, holiday-themed plays off Broadway, storefront windows dressed up as mini-winter wonderlands, wonderful light decorations, music, snow, Santa, ice skating, and just about any type of shopping you could ever dream of.
It is true that during the holiday season the wind can blow hard, sleet, rain, and snow can fall, and the temperatures dip below freezing, but there is definite warmth to the atmosphere during a NYC Christmas. The first stop you should make when arriving in the Big Apple for Christmastime would be the grand Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. The tree is specially chosen each year and then decorated with thousands upon thousands of lights and a gigantic Swarovski crystal star atop the tree. When you are finished admiring the beautiful tree, you and your loved ones can head over to the ice skating rink which the Christmas tree overlooks. Enjoy a few twirls around the ice while basking in the Christmas lights and holiday shoppers.
Another big attraction for a NYC Christmas is all of the holiday window displays of the major department stores. The most famous of them all is the wonderful window display at Macy’s in Herald Square. People who travel from all over to the city to enjoy the holidays always make a point to visit the unique Christmas window display at Macy’s. Other stores that have picked up this tradition are Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys and Nordstrom. Each year the window display changes and brings smiles to the hearts of both the young and the old.
If you are in the mood for some theatre while in town for a NYC Christmas, you will not be disappointed. You can see all the regular Broadway, Off Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway shows, but you can also experience some of the most magical shows of the year including the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and even How the Grinch Stole Christmas. These are the two most popular shows during the holiday season and both run for a limited time.
When you plan a trip to New York City for the holiday season, be sure to do an Internet search for things to do and places to visit while you are here. This can help you organize and plan your NYC Christmas so that it is the most perfect event of your holiday season.
