An All Time Favorite, The Breakfast Club Added: 11/21/2007

Back in 1985, a great movie came out, called The Breakfast Club. This was a teen film that really set the bar for other teen movies to come after it. However, now-a-days it is not just looked at as a teen movie, but as an classic movie. If you really wanted to put a label on this movie, you could call it a “coming of age” film. Since then, a lot of other movies like it have come out, but none of them have had the cult following like The Breakfast Club. I think The Breakfast Club shows people that we are all deeper people than what we give credit for. Whenever you see someone at school, you give them a label, you stereotype them. However, you never take the time to look and see what is behind that person, and you never take the time to see that this person has a life. A lot of people just take things at face value, and you never look into the deeper side of things. The Breakfast Club addresses this problem, but in a funny way. When you first see this movie, you do not feel like you have learned anything. You just feel like you watched a great movie. Of course, overtime you start to see that this movie has planted a seed in your brain. The fact that this movie can do that, shows how great it is. Over time that seed that it plants, helps us look at the whole picture of things, instead of just looking at the outside of something. Have you ever heard the saying, “Don't judge a book by its cover.” This is the saying this movie feeds on. No other movie covers this point better than The Breakfast Club.

The storyline of The Breakfast Club is not a very deep one. It is about five teenagers who really look like they have nothing in common. However, they are all spending their Saturday in detention. When you first look at the movie, you will see that these kids no nothing about each other, they are complete strangers. The only time they have ever seen each other may be in the hall, and even then they just passed by without really seeing them. Now these kids are stuck in detention together, and they come to find out that they have more in common than meets the eye. Of course, the thing that makes the movie so funny is the teacher that is there with the kids across the hall. He makes the movie so funny with the things that he says and does. In fact, some of the most memorable scenes in the movie are with the teacher, and one of the students, name Bender. In one part of the movie, the teacher keeps giving Bender more and more Saturday detentions for back talking. The teacher says, “If you want another detention just say it” then Bender says “it.” After that the teacher says. “That's it. I have you now for the rest of your natural born life.” The fight that those two have back and fourth is so funny.

I love the movie The Breakfast Club. It is by far one of my favorite movies of all time, and I guess that is why it is a movie that I have in my own DVD collection. If you have never seen the movie, or sat down and watched the whole thing, you really need to give it a try. These kids that have nothing in common, finally band together to go out against the teacher. After you watch this movie, it will become one of your favorite movies of all time, and you will see why so many kids like this movie so much. I really cannot get enough of this movie, and that is why I suggest that you go out and buy this movie today. You will be happy you did.
