A Movie With a Wedding, Newport Beach Has It

Added: 01/22/2006

While the Newport Beach Film Festival may include a film with a wedding, Newport Beach residents tend to prefer some of the less professional films taken at the scene of a wedding. They like to watch on their VCRs the movies that show their own weddings. Although those weddings may not be as elaborate as any Hollywood wedding, they do involve a great deal of preparation.

Among the 350 films scheduled to be shown at the 2006 Newport Beach Film Festival viewers are sure to find a least one with a wedding. Newport Beach films of weddings, however, do not consist only of those shown at the Film Festival. Video photographers have made their appearance at a large number of local weddings. So residents of Newport Beach have many weddings to watch using their VCR.

Although those films on video tape lack the professional look of past Festival Films, movies such as Crash, Dust to Glory, Castle in the Sky or Joint Security Area, each depicts the events of a very special wedding. Newport Beach residents star in those short "family flicks." During the seven years of the Film Festival the residents have watched many hours of those non-professional wedding videos.

Many of the residents caught on film by the video photographers had previously shunned cameras. They had not wanted to be photographed while participating in the Newport Beach dating scene. That had all changed on the day of their wedding. Newport Beach media revealed many facts about each Newport Beach wedding. Frequently it also ran a picture of the bride and groom.

The news coverage of those weddings failed to disclose much information about the lead-up to the weddings. It provided no facts about the Newport Beach personal ads that led to the meeting of many couples. Other than offering an oblique reference on the Internet, the media never mentioned the dating couples who liked to take walks along the peninsula's shore line. The media confined its coverage to what took place at each wedding. Newport Beach wedding preparations were never included in any news story.

Yet Newport Beach had excellent resources for anyone who was planning a wedding. Newport Beach had a mall with two very popular stores, stores where a future bride could find much of what she needed. Both Bloomingdale's and Neiman Marcus had stores at Fashion Island, the local mall. Many young females who had met the "man of their dreams" through a Newport Beach personal ad later paid a number of visits to Fashion Island.

And the future brides of Newport Beach had available to them more assistance with their plans for a wedding. Newport Beach Marriott Hotel offered those who used their facilities the services of a wedding planner. These certified wedding planners could help the future brides select the best spot for the wedding ceremony. They could help the future brides to choose from the various place cards that the Hotel made available to its clients. They could help the nervous young ladies plan and prepare for a wedding that anyone would be proud to have on film.

The Marriott offered its clients several breathtaking locations for a wedding ceremony. Some were inside, while others were outside, where the guests could be treated to a lovely ocean vista. Perhaps some day an independent film maker will include in his or her movie a wedding that was staged at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel. Perhaps that film will be shown at the Film Festival.
