Amathomancy is closely related to Abacomancy. This practice deals with using dirt or sand for its particular readings. The Greek word amathos is understood to mean sand.

Amathomancy requires the reader to tap into their subconscious and pull out what they see. As with Abacomancy, you can also drop this sand or dirt on a flat surface and read the patterns involved. These will give you a glimpse into the upcoming future. Just by noticing the arrangement of the patterns, you can tell someone a lot about themselves.

Some of the many symbols and patterns are not unique. They are used in other practices as well. These include an X, a heart, a spiral, and many different lines. The X would mean to cross out the negative influences in your life or that some would be approaching soon. The heart would symbolize love entering or leaving a person's life. The spiral means a journey into higher planes of being. The lines would be short steps onto a new journey.

Some of these are quite ancient techniques, but many people love to go back and read them and try to emulate the old ways of doing these practices. They are quite interesting to read about and practice to this day still.
