With the ongoing success of the mafia movies like Godfather and Godfather part II it is no surprise that the concept of role playing video games has finally embraced the Mob. All kinds of mafia gangsters are immortalized in video games now and the trend does not look like it is going to stop. So pull up an XBOX and get ready to make someone an offer that they cannot refuse.
Probably the most popular video role playing mafia game is the Godfather game that was released last year. As with other role playing games you get limited choices as to what character you can be and the missions involved all have definite goals and patterns that you have to get through before the level you are on can be considered finished. You shoot and rob your way through the game until you become Godfather and even then you can just keep on shooting and robbing if you so choose. It really is not a great role model game and should not be played by young children but for the older crowd it is a lot of fun and can give you that feeling that you are a gangster rising through the ranks and eliminating the competition. The game stays truer to the movies than to any reality since the movies are always more interesting. Real life gangsters try to avoid gun fights in the middle of the street if they can while video game and movie gangsters throw bullets back in forth in public all the time.
On the heals of the success of the Godfather mafia game came other mafia games and gangster related games that have also found great success. Soon after the release of the successful Godfather game came another gangster video game based on an Al Pacino character called Scarface Money, Power, Respect. The game featured the foul mouthed Tony Montana character that Pacino made so famous running around killing people and selling drugs. Considering the language used, the object of the game which is murder, and the violence and drugs that are all over the game this is definitely not a game for younger people. You may want to consider limiting the age on this one to 17 years old and older. Al Pacino did not offer his voice to this game which was widely publicized when the game came out. Instead a different actor did an excellent job at recreating the Pacino voice for Montana. Even with all of the warnings this is a great game that can keep anyone occupied for hours. To completely beat the game would take even the most experienced gamer days because it has so many levels and even after you finally think you have finished it there is still a reason to keep going. The Scarface game is a great investment because it is not like a lot of other role playing games where you complete the objective and the game is totally over. Scarface goes on and on and has so many levels and challenges in it that it could be quite a hobby for anyone.
