Brazil is the largest and most densely populated country on the continent of South America. In terms of area and population the fifth largest country in the world. In fact, Brazil borders on every South American country, with the exceptions of Chile and Ecuador. Adriana was born on June 12, 1981 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Adriana Lima has been making waves for her exotic dark looks and bouncy naturally dark brown since before she was old enough to drive. Lima Bean, as Adriana is affectionately chided by her friends, is a Gemini with a saucy pierced navel who was "discovered" by a modeling scout while cruising the mall at age thirteen. A couple of years later the South American model took the first place prize in the Ford Supermodel of Brazil model search. The competition changed her life. It wasn't long before Adriana was boarding a plane headed for the Big Apple, but not before winning the second place spot in Ford's follow up competition the 1996 Supermodel of the World Contest.

It was in New York City that Adriana really began to make a name for herself. She left her launching pad at the legendary Ford Modeling Agency for a lucrative contract with Elite Model Management. Between 1997 and 1998, Adriana sent a lot of time doing print work for international magazine layouts. The South American model extraordanaire appeared in fashion Bibles like Vogue and Marie Clarie. She also appeared on many New York City catwalks for Valentino and Christian Lacroix.

But perhaps it was the South American model's appearance in the Times Square billboard for the Vassarette underwear brand back in the late nineties that took Adriana Lima from just another pretty face to the ultimate tropical vixen-and a ball of beauty that was a force to be reckoned with. And the fact that she knew her way around a pair of panties would come in handy down the road. The billboard helped Adriana join the modeling ranks of Claudia Schiffer, Laetitia Costa and Eva Herzigova to appear as a Guess girl in the jean empire's 2000 campaign in Costanoa.

Adriana continued working in print modeling. She graced the covers of such illustrious publications as Harper's Bazaar and Elle. The South American model also did work for Mossimo, Bebe, BCBG and Maybelline. But underwear has always been good to Ariana and she is most famous for being one of the Victoria's Secret Angels, alongside Heidi Klum and fellow South American model, Gisele.
