His lawyer winds up being Sir Wilfrid Robarts, played by Charles Laughton, who is a famous attorney that has just suffered a heart attack. Robarts is supposed to be only involved in the most generic and easy cases but he cannot deny the attraction of a high profile murder case and agrees to be Vole’s lawyer. The only alibi that Leonard Vole has comes from his wife Christine, played by Marlene Dietrich, but one of the first twists is that Christine does not want to be a witness for the defense but rather be a witness for the prosecution. This is one of many twists that make Witness For The Prosecution such a popular movie that has endured the test of time for decades.
