To some of its residents and many of its visitors, being here gives them the feeling they are living in a park.  Overland Park, KS is the perfect city to live in for numerous reasons.  Its aesthetics and landscape are very appealing to the eye, it has a wide variety of activities, shops and restaurants for residents, its median household income level is higher than the surrounding areas and the national average, it has a lower crime rate than the other cities around it, and it's located just outside Kansas City, making activities and amenities of the big city easily accessible.  These features are also what make it a great destination for travelers.

One of the major attractions is the Arboretum and Botanical Gardens Park, Overland Park KS.  Eighty-five percent of this attraction is dedicated to preserving and restoring the natural ecosystem of the area.  The other portion is left to a traditional botanical garden, an educational visitors' center, and space for a future conservatory, which is currently in the planning stages.  For outdoor lovers and environmentalists, the arboretum and gardens do offer hiking trails through the park.

Another favorite attraction of visitors and locals is the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead.  Dedicated in memory of an Overland Park Police Officer killed in the line of duty, the farm offers a variety of farm animals to see, pet, and feed including chickens, ducks, horses, pigs, peacocks, cows, birds and goats.  It also features wagon hayrides, a fishing pond, a silo with a slide, and a traditional farmhouse.  Set on eight acres, the farm is made to depict a Kansas farm at the turn of the 20th century. 

If you are finished visiting some of its attractions and park, Overland Park provides many places to go for those that are hungry and looking for good food.  One of the favorite restaurants of locals and visitors is Dick Clark's American Bandstand Grill.  This a full-service restaurant complete with Dick Clark memorabilia, that also serves as a great dance spot at night.  While dining visitors can enjoy watching music videos and clips from the original American Bandstand.

For those wanting a little more with their meal, Overland Park is home to the New Theatre Restaurant, a dinner theatre, currently featuring a play starring William Christopher from the classic Television show M*A*S*H.  For those interested in shopping, the Overland Park Mall features many shops and restaurants for patrons.  It also is home to the Rainforest Café, which provides a unique dining experience in a rainforest-type atmosphere.  Of course if travelers desire something more, Kansas City is a short drive and provides a much larger variety of activities.
