1st Wave Feminism Was The Start Of It All

Added: 11/22/2007

Whenever you are talking about the 1st wave feminism you are talking about feminists that were active during the nineteenth century. Of course, when talking about 1st wave feminism, some of that takes place in the very early twentieth century in some places like the United Kingdom and parts of the United States. Mostly what this deals with is women's suffrage and getting women the same rights as a man. Of course, later on you would see the second wave feminism start, and even later, then that you can see the third wave feminism start up in many different areas.

1st wave feminism was the start of everything for the supporters of the feminism movement. This wave of feminism came to help put an end to women's suffrage and helping them have the same rights as men do. Depending on where you are looking at 1st wave feminism, you will see that it happen in different areas at different times. The 1st wave feminism is usually talked about as when the first thing that happen for the women's rights in that area. In the United States of America, the 1st wave feminism would have to be mostly linked to the Nineteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. This came about in 1919, and what this amendment did was grant women the right to vote. This was a big step in the right direction with feminism and shows the progress that the 1st wave feminism had. It is easy to say that without the 1st wave feminism that some of these rights may have never came about. If you are a woman, then the 1st wave feminism is something that you should be happy about. However, that was not the only thing that the 1st wave feminism helped, but it also got us to take a different look at women in the work place. Up until this time, usually you did not see as many women playing major roles in the work place. Now, for the most part, women can do any job that a man can do, and this is all linked back to the 1st wave feminism.

I know that not too many people learn about 1st wave feminism in school. At least when you do learn about it, it is not usually talked about as 1st wave feminism. Usually you just kind of hear a little about it when people are talking about other things. I for one think that it is a big part of your American history and that is should be covered more. Some colleges are having some classes that talk only about the waves of feminism. Of course, these colleges are few and far between. In fact, unless you are at a really big college, then you are not going to see a class for 1st wave feminism. Even if you are in a big college, you still may not have a class for feminism. This is because a lot of people think that feminism ideas do not work as well in this era. Back in the day, it worked a lot better, but now for the most part women are treated like men. In fact, you get a lot of special things if you are a women. The only time you do not get something special is if you are a white male. Sure you can get some college grants just for being a woman, however, you cannot get one for being a white male. When you look at it like this you will see that white males might need their own help defending their rights. Of course, people still support feminism, and that is fine because in America you have the right to say whatever you want, it is called the freedom of speech. Either way, you cannot tell me that 1st wave feminism is not something that was good and needs to be studied by our kids so they do not forget it.

I really enjoy learning things about the 1st wave feminism. I feel like this is the wave of feminism that did the most and helped out women in the most ways. Because of that I feel like it is something that all people;e should learn about. There is nothing better than learning about the history of your country. In most countries, at some point, 1st wave feminism is a part of your history, and you should remember to study it.
